Proposed Plans for the Redevelopment

As you can see from this architect's plan, the new church building is at the heart of the project. The entrance to the church remains on Church Street West, and it leads into an imaginatively designed 'internal street' with church rooms leading off to the left and right.

The church accommodation includes a 1000 seat auditorium, a cafe and bookshop, an advice centre, activity rooms, creche and classrooms, and office space for the church's staff. Also at ground floor level is one retail unit on the corner of Church Street West and Oaks Road opposite Pizza Express.

Above the church accommodation on Church Street West and Oaks Road are some low-level residential apartments, with a tower building of apartments above the retail unit and some of the church accommodation on the corner of Church Street West and Oaks Road. As you can see from this side view, the tower would be a stylish and iconic gateway to Woking town centre from the west, whilst providing a large number of new homes in the town centre on the 'town side' of the site rather than on the more residential Oaks Road side of the site.

These residential units would be a wide selection of studio, 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, with a higher percentage of studio, 1 and 2 bedroom units than usual in order to provide entry point accommodation for those who struggle to put their first foot on the housing ladder. The internal layout of these apartments within the tower would look something like this:
